This year, you need to pay an extra $25 to get AFL grand Final tickets. Footy fans who want tickets to the AFL Grand Final will have to pay up to an extra $25 per head this year.

Blaming rising costs, the AFL told the Herald Sun it was necessary to raise ticket prices between $5 and $25 each, bringing the cost of a mid-range seat to around $325.

The cheapest seat in the MCG for the Grand Final will cost around $180 and the high-range tickets will start at $399.

In a small win for fans, adult ticket prices for matches in the two weeks leading up to the finals have been lowered to $35.

“For the past two seasons we have elected to keep all prices on hold at 2013 levels, and our commitment to affordability continues with the introduction of a reduced entry level ticket in weeks 1-3,” AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan told the newspaper.

“It is reality that the costs of holding matches continues to rise and we hope the impact of increasing the price of some ticketing categories is minimised with a significantly lower national entry-level price.

“We believe the price of all seating categories represents excellent value and we expect fans to vote with their feet and be part of one of the most open finals series in recent memory.”

In June, the newspaper revealed the AFL pulls in a net profit of more than $19 million from the Grand Final match.

Members of competing clubs will be most affected by the Grand Final ticket increases — with all categories except the most expensive seats ($399) and the cheapest ($180) being raised significantly. The cheapest preliminary final tickets will be $65 — a saving on last year — but the most expensive seats are up $9 to $179.

Tickets other than in the cheapest categories in the first two weeks of finals are also subject to rises of up to $5.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan said he hoped reducing the minimum entry price for finals would help offset the increases in other categories. (Source:)
